Furniture Wishlist

Since we moved I have been on the lookout for some furniture to fill our new space. I also need a few different storage options. Here are a few pieces I have on my wishlist.

I love the look of this bed.

I have been looking for a buffet for our dinning room but I can't decide which I like more I love the lines of the first one and the color of the second. There are just so many looks out there that I like.

We don't have a coat closet and the lines of this coat rack are so feminine and beautiful.

I have been looking for a coffee table with lots of storage and character and this one completely fits the bill.

The Look For Less

I happened upon this beautiful bowl on One Kings Lane and I immediately thought it looked familiar. I'm sure by now everyone has seen this bowl from Ikea, with a little spray paint it would give you the same look at a quarter of the price.

I have always liked the look of the Ikea bowl but I never bought it because I don't have anywhere to put it. What do you think is it your style?

Dining Room Progress

Both the china cabinet and my table and chairs I bought on Craigslist, at different times from different people. The table and chairs I bought when we were still living in our old place. The chairs had off white seats and there was no cushion in them. I bought fabric, foam and batting to recover them from Michael Levine in the Fashion District. I found the Fabric in the clearance section for $3 a yard! I love the color combination of the wood with deep teal fabric. I don't think the table was ever sealed properly after the wood was stained, because when ever I clean the table it looks like some of the stain comes off. One time when we had company over I had a table cloth on the table and I think someone spilled something on the table, because when I took the table cloth off there was that big mark on the table that's a lot lighter then the rest. I would like to refinish the table but I don't have the space to, so someday when we move into a house and I have outside space I will refinish it. Until then I will just have to make do. Whenever we have guests I anyways use a table cloth so I'm o.k. with that.

Here is a night time shot. I would also like to eventually refinish the china cabinet but for now I am happy just to have one. Off to the side you can see an extra shelf that I took out because our Menorah and candle sticks were too tall. I don't want to throw it out because I would like to cut them down so that I can have the second shelf on the sides.
I am going to buy a garbage can that will fit inside one of my cabinets because there is no space for a garbage can in the kitchen and it does not belong in the dining room. The space also feels like it needs some more color. I need to figure out how to bring more color to my dining room. Any ideas?

Living Room Progress

We finally unpacked the last of the boxes in our living room yesterday. We were waiting to unpack the books until we bought an entertainment center so we could figure out where the bookshelves should go. I wanted a cabinet with doors so that I can close them, out of sight out of mind.
I have seen many people decorate with their books but we have too many books for this amount of space for me to do that. I tried putting the darker color books to the middle of the shelves and moving outwards to the lighter, and I am actually happy with the way it turned out.

I simply love my fireplace. It is completely fake and there isn't any space to even put something that plugs in, but it adds so much personality to the room. I am planning on putting up some family pictures (after we take them) above the fireplace but for now I covered an old canvas with some leftover fabric (I recovered my rocking chair with the same fabric). You can't see in the pictures but the fabric has beautiful texture. The flowers and vases are from Ikea.

The big turquoise pillow I found in the as is section at Ikea and sewed the cover with leftover upholstery fabric from covering my dinning room chairs.

I will go into the details about the dinning room in another post, I am still trying to figure out that room. Once I decide what to do with the space behind the couch I will show you that as well. For now I just dumped a bunch of the kids toys over there. All in all I am really happy with how things are looking. It is starting to feel like a real home. I just need to put up pictures and properly set up my office and do like a million other things that I won't think about right now. I just need to keep telling myself one day at a time.

We are taking family pictures soon and I have been looking around for outfits for my children. I want us to all wear pink and brown and maybe cream (I just hope my husband doesn't think it's too girly). I don't usually shop for clothing online, but then again I also don't usually shop for coordinating outfits. Here is what I found for my 2 year old son.

I need help me choosing a bow tie. Which do you think goes best?

So what do you think, is it too girly? and which bow tie would look best?

5 on Friday

We are still getting settled in to our new place so I don't really have much to share as it has been hard to try and find time to blog let alone do something that would be blog worthy!

Here is a list of five blogs that I have been loving lately!

1. Cupcakes and Cashmere is a life style blog by Emily Schuman. Her blog is so beautiful and she posts the most amazing recipes!
2. Adventures in Dressmaking Suzannah has amazing sewing skills and posts pictures of all the clothing she makes as well as tips for beginning sewers.
3. The daily fashion blog What I Wore by Jessica Quirk is full of outfit inspiration.
4. Katy of No Big Dill sews the most beautiful dresses for her girls.
5. Disney from Ruffles and Stuff is the one who got me to start following blogs. She has a very feminine style and posts easy sewing crafty little tutorials. I kept on going back to see what her newest post was until I finally just subscribed to her.

I know that I haven't blogged in a while but we MOVED!!!

And thank G-d for that, things were getting unbearable in our old apartment. We had a neighbor who smoked marijuana constantly (and probably took many other things as well) and played video games with the sound really loud and he would shout and scream very often. To top it off the manager and owners of the building started to be really nasty to us once we decided we wanted to move and they accused of of stealing their refrigerator when the refrigerator was in fact ours, we asked them to take theirs out when we moved in. The proof the owner gave me that we stole it "it looks exactly like the one that used to be here." Fortunately they dropped it after we told them we had proof that we bought our refrigerator.
Now thank G-d we are in a much better apartment (it really feels like a home and not a tiny little box identical to half the city's inhabitants) with a proper management company and I am so grateful for all the little things. Every few minutes I turn around and find something about my new home that makes me happy. Here are a few, we have windows in our kitchen, real sunlight makes such a huge difference! I can open all the windows in my living and dinning room and I don't feel like I am on display for all my neighbors because they are not walking to their home just inches away from my windows. We have a fake fireplace that adds so much charm (I will take pictures once all the boxes are out of the room). We have an actual hallway, and the last thing I would like to tell you about is also one of the most exciting for me... We have a dishwasher!!! (this is my fist time having a dishwasher since I got married)

On a completely separate note I just got my new (refurbished) camera in, they couldn't fix my old one (thank G-d for warranties) so I will be able to start posting more normally again and with better photos.

I'm linking up

you are talking too much
